CyBC news reports in English, Turkish and Greek 10.02.2011 about EU criticism of Turkey for failing to demonstrate goodwill towards a peaceful reunification of Cyprus by failing to begin to withdraw its army of occupation, withdraw its hundreds of thousands of illegal settlers, give back Famagusta to its lawful inhabitants, and contribute to the mission to ascertain the fate of still-missing people in Cyprus, and failure to implement the Ankara protocol. While not reporting about other-than-Cyprus-related matters of Turkey's EU membership applications process such as the juduciary and human rights in Turkey itself not having progressed, or the rights of the multi-million Kurdish people within Turkey not being provided with even a modicum of rights which Turkey seeks to secure for Turkish-speaking Cypriots in a possible Cyprus settlement - Erdogan's response to Turkish Cypriot demonstrations against his policies is hardly a harbinger of "peace with neighbours" but rather appears as proof of dictatorial megalomania which has been harshly criticised within Turkey itself. "Speaking to Today's Zaman in an interview, Andrew Duff, a British member of the European Parliament, went further and said accession will no longer be a topic to discuss for the European Parliament this time next year if there is no "dramatic change" on Cyprus this year. If Turkey does not bring a solution, he said, "there is no chance of a settlement in this generation and there is no chance that Turkey can continue the formal accession process." "The reason why I am so outspoken on this is that I'm getting tired of pretending that everything is fine, while we all know privately that it is not," said Duff, who has been a strong supporter of Turkish accession.
