He is married to Theodora Sergidou and together they have a 9 month old daughter. After a big explosion on July 11, 2011 that destroyed the main electricity power generating plant of Cyprus, a change in mentality on energy usage became imperative to overcome a scorching summer heat with limited electricity. With impetus from this event, in this TEDxNicosia Talk, Dr. Alexandros Charalambides is asking whether the global community is prepared for a global black-out due to energy waste and what each one of us can do to prevent such blackout. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. * (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
